BIOGRAPHY
Taneeka Hanna is a native of Durham, North Carolina. She benefited from an amazing Durham Public Schools education. She attended Club Blvd. Humanities Magnet Elementary School, and then spent the rest of her formative years at Durham School of the Arts. She was elated to continue to work in the district that sparked her passion for education during her residency.
Taneeka attended Howard University in Washington, D.C. on a Bowling Scholarship obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Human Development (2011) and Master of Art in Teaching in Early Childhood Education (2012). She spent much of her professional career working with elementary school students. She was a classroom teacher with the Prince George’s County Public Schools for four years. In Maryland, she taught second and third grade, while working as the Social Studies Chair, Grade Level Chair, Technology Liaison, and leading the STEAM Robotics Team. After moving back to North Carolina, she became a teacher with Durham Public School, teaching fourth and fifth grade. During this time she also received her certification in Academically and Intellectually Gifted from Duke University (2019). In May of 2019, Taneeka began her work with NC State Leadership Academy (NCSLA). NCSLA is one of NC State’s current cohorts! After completion of the two year program, she was well prepared to lead North Carolina Schools. Her decision to become an administrator came from a strong desire to make a positive impact on an entire school community. Taneeka completed her Principal Residency at Neal Middle School for the 2020 - 2021 School Year, and soon took on the role of Elementary School Dean of Academics with Triangle Math and Science Academy in Cary, NC. As of November 2021, Taneeka serves as an assistant principal at Hope Valley Elementary School in Durham, NC. She is committed to building a partnership with the students, staff, teachers, families and community, and is honored to grow her leadership skills with such an outstanding staff. |
